Picture a wall of Canyon Oak base cabinets running unbroken under a pale quartz counter, long bar pulls tracking the horizontal line, nothing interrupting the grain from one end of the run to the other. That is what a slab door gives you, and it is a different experience from a paneled kitchen even when the color is identical.

A slab door has a flat front with no stiles, no rails and no recessed center panel. Because there is no frame dividing the surface, a finish reads as one continuous plane across the whole run. On a wood-look finish that means the grain and color variation stay fully visible. On a painted color it means the shade shows at full strength, with the sheen of the finish doing the work that a shadow line would do on a shaker door.

Luxe pairs that modern front with a traditional framed cabinet box. You get the European-inspired look on the outside and the familiar strength of Fabuwood's framed Allure construction behind it, which is a combination plenty of homeowners find reassuring when they are buying a modern kitchen online.

How This Line Compares

Within Fabuwood Allure, Luxe is the only slab. Every other door in the family has a frame and a recessed panel, so this is the one that changes the character of the room rather than just its proportions.

Customers who want a paneled front on the same cabinet may prefer Galaxy, the traditional 2 1/2 inch shaker, or Luna, which narrows the frame to 3/4 inch for something between the two. If a full-access frameless interior is what you are after, Fabuwood Illume Catalina offers a slab door on a frameless box and is a different construction style worth comparing.

The finish list is its own point of difference. Canyon Oak is exclusive to Luxe within the Allure collection, and it was chosen with this door in mind: the uninterrupted surface is what lets its grain and color variation show at full length. Not every Allure finish is offered on the slab door. Customers set on Dove, Timber, Mocha, Truffle, Kona, Indigo, Cobblestone or Horizon will find those in the shaker-style Allure collections instead.

What Every Cabinet Includes

• All-plywood cabinet box in 3/4 inch select veneered plywood with matching veneer edge banding, a durable foundation that copes well with kitchen humidity.
• Solid wood face frame, 3/4 by 1 1/2 inch stiles and rails joined with glue and dowels, grooved at the back to accept the side panels.
• Full overlay slab doors and drawer fronts. Full overlay, which simply means the door covers most of the cabinet face, leaves very little frame showing so the run reads as one clean surface.
• 5/8 inch solid wood dovetail drawer boxes with a 3/8 inch plywood bottom. Dovetail is the interlocking corner joint that keeps a drawer square under load, and it is a detail you feel every time a heavy drawer glides straight.
• Full-extension concealed Blum Tandem runners with Blumotion, so a deep drawer clears the cabinet completely and the items at the back come to you.
• Concealed Blum hinges with soft-close, six-way adjustable and opening to 110 degrees, with quick-release for easy removal and adjustment.
• Plywood toe kick on base and tall cabinets, with matching 8 foot lengths available so the bottom of the run finishes neatly.

Choosing Your Finish

Wood looks. Canyon Oak is the one to see first, since it exists only on this door. It gives a warm, natural front that suits a kitchen you want to feel relaxed rather than clinical. Desert Oak is the paler alternative, a light and contemporary oak look that keeps a smaller room feeling open. Both sit beautifully under a light counter with a linen or plaster-look backsplash and simple black or bronze hardware.

Whites and neutrals. Cloud White is the softer, warmer white and Frost is brighter and cooler, and the two are genuinely different rooms once they are on a wall. Macadamia Beige adds a little sand and warmth without going cream. Any of the three works as a bright, minimal kitchen, and a countertop with visible movement gives the eye somewhere to travel.

Color. The greens run from soft Sage through Mint and Pistachio to deep Hunter and Forest. Denim Blue is an easy everyday blue and Izel Blue is lighter still.
