Assembled cabinets arrive built, with the doors hung and adjusted at the factory. Boxes come off the truck square, which is what keeps door gaps even along a long run, and the installation is largely hanging and leveling. Choose this if the kitchen is going in quickly, or if the installer is being paid by the hour.

Ready to assemble ships the same cabinets flat-packed to go together on site. They cost less, and they are far easier to carry through a narrow hallway or up a turning staircase, which is a real advantage in an apartment or an older house. Assembly runs roughly 15–30 minutes per cabinet, so budget the time.

Assembled and RTA are the same cabinets in two formats, not two different ranges. Where a listing carries both, you select Assembled or RTA (Unassembled) on the product page, at the size your layout actually needs. Some sizes are still listed separately, one assembled and one RTA, so it is worth checking both if you do not see the option you want.

Jarlin is a separate manufacturer from Fabuwood, and the two are unrelated. That matters most for the warranty, covered below.

How These Cabinets Are Built

Cabinet marketing tends toward the vague, so here is the specification in plain terms, taken from Jarlin's own construction book.

• Cabinet box: 1/2 inch grade plywood. Plywood rather than particle board, so it holds screws properly and copes with the humidity swings of a kitchen without swelling at the edges.
• Face frame: 3/4 by 1 1/2 inch hardwood, joined with a double doweled joint.
• Doors and drawer fronts: full overlay, 3/4 inch thick panels.
• Drawer box: dovetail corners with 5/8 inch solid wood sides, with no finger joints anywhere.
• Drawer glides: under-mount concealed, full extension, soft-closing.
• Hinges: European fully concealed, six-way adjustable, soft-closing.
• Shelving: adjustable cabinet-grade plywood on metal shelf rests, 18 inches deep in base cabinets.

Two of those are worth explaining. Under-mount full-extension glides means the runners sit below the drawer instead of at its sides, so nothing eats into the width of the box and the drawer pulls all the way clear of the cabinet: you can reach what has drifted to the back rather than fishing for it. Dovetail with no finger joints matters because finger-jointed corners are the usual place a lower-cost drawer starts to loosen after a few years of being loaded up. Interlocking dovetails keep the box square under weight.

Six-way adjustable hinges are the installer's friend. They let the door be moved in three directions after hanging, which is how a run of cabinets ends up with even gaps from one end to the other.

If you want to compare specifications properly across brands, the industry tests cabinets against the ANSI/KCMA A161.1 performance standard published by the Kitchen Cabinet Manufacturers Association, which is a useful yardstick when a spec sheet gets vague.

Shaker is the flat recessed panel with a plain square frame. It is the most-installed kitchen door in America, it works with essentially any countertop and hardware you put near it, and it is the safest choice if resale is anywhere in your thinking. The Jarlin shaker range covers the whites and grays most kitchens start from, plus a handful of deeper colors: Cream White, Dove White, Sterling Gray, Smoky Gray, Soda, Sandy Mirage, Sage Green, Aria Blue, Toffee, Ebony and an Unfinished Birch for anyone finishing on site.

Raised panel has a contoured center panel that stands slightly proud of the frame and catches light along its edges. It reads more traditional and suits older houses, formal kitchens and any room where a completely plain door would look too spare. Avalon, Charlton, Newport and Perla are the raised-panel finishes.

Pairings Worth Considering

The white and gray shakers are the easiest starting point for a first kitchen. Cream White and Dove White sit comfortably against light quartz and stone-look counters, and they take brushed nickel, brass or matte black hardware equally well. Sterling Gray and Smoky Gray give you more definition against a white countertop and pair naturally with stainless appliances.

Toffee and Ebony are the two shaker finishes that change the character of a room most. Toffee brings warmth and works beautifully with a mid-brown floor and bronze hardware, while Ebony gives you a deep, high-contrast kitchen that wants a light countertop beside it to keep the contrast sharp.

Aria Blue and Sage Green are the color options, and both are well suited to an island in an otherwise neutral kitchen. A blue or green island with a white perimeter is a straightforward way to get color into the room without committing every cabinet to it.

On the raised-panel side, Charlton and Newport suit traditional rooms with wood floors and warm metals, while Perla and Avalon sit lighter and work well in a formal kitchen with a marble-look counter.

Soft-close is fitted on doors and drawers across the range, on both the assembled and the flat-packed versions, at no extra cost.

The box is 1/2 inch plywood rather than the 3/4 inch used on some premium lines. It is genuine plywood throughout, which is the distinction that most affects how a cabinet ages, and the box thickness is part of why Jarlin lands where it does on price.

Painted finishes vary slightly less than stains from one door to the next, which is worth knowing if you are covering a large kitchen and want everything to read as a single run.

Order the fillers, panels, moldings and toe kick alongside the cabinets. Exposed cabinet ends in particular need a finished panel, and that is the item most often discovered missing on install day.
