Choosing a Long Pull for Pantries and Wide Drawers
Small pulls look lost on a tall pantry door or a 36" drawer. A long pull fixes the proportion and gives you a full-hand grip on doors and drawers that carry more weight. The sizes in this collection start at 10" (256 mm) and step up through 12" and 12-5/8" (320 mm) to about 19" center to center, so there is a length for most tall doors and wide drawers.
Most of these pulls are slim modern bars, with transitional, traditional and eclectic designs mixed in. Brushed nickel, chrome and matte black lead the finishes, joined by oil-rubbed bronze, honey bronze, champagne bronze and satin brass, plus two-tone matte black and chrome. Every pull here is a cabinet pull from Richelieu and comes with mounting screws for a standard 3/4" door or drawer front.
What size pull for a pantry door?
Pantry and tall utility doors usually stand 84" to 96" tall, and pulls of 12" or longer suit them best. A 12-5/8" pull is a safe middle choice, and an 18-7/8" or 19-1/8" pull makes a bolder statement on a full-height door. Mount it vertically on the stile opposite the hinge, with the middle of the pull near countertop height so it is easy to reach.
How long should a pull be on a wide drawer?
The 1/3 rule still applies. A 30" drawer looks right with a 10" pull, and a 36" drawer takes a 12" or 12-5/8" pull. A deep pot drawer under a cooktop also benefits from the longer grip. On drawers 24" and narrower, step down to 7-1/2" or 6-1/4" so the pull does not crowd the front.
Can long cabinet pulls go on appliance doors?
On light panel-ready doors, such as a dishwasher panel that matches your cabinets, a long cabinet pull usually works. A refrigerator or freezer door is much heavier and gets pulled hard many times a day. Those doors usually need dedicated appliance pulls, which are built with heavier mounting. The pulls in this collection are cabinet pulls, made for cabinet doors, drawers and light panels.
Which finish works on a long pull?
A long pull shows more metal, so the finish carries more weight in the room. Matte black reads as a strong graphic line on Fabuwood Allure Galaxy Frost or Galaxy Sage Green cabinets. Brushed nickel and chrome stay quiet on Galaxy Nickel and Galaxy Cobblestone. Warm brass and bronze tones like honey bronze suit Galaxy Indigo and Galaxy Natural Oak, where they pick up the color in the door.
Long Cabinet Pull FAQ
How are long pulls measured?
Center to center, from the middle of one screw hole to the middle of the other. The overall length is longer because the ends extend past the holes. When replacing a long pull, order the exact spacing of the existing holes.
Should pantry pulls be vertical or horizontal?
Vertical. On tall doors a vertical pull follows the shape of the door and is easy to grab at different heights. Drawers take long pulls horizontally, centered on the front. For a tidy look, set every vertical pull at the same height across the tall cabinets.
Do long pulls need extra support on a cabinet door?
No. A long pull on a cabinet door or drawer fastens with the included screws through the front. A hardware template helps keep the holes level over the longer span. Check the spacing twice before drilling the second hole.
Can I see a long pull with my cabinet color first?
Yes. You can order door samples and hold the pull against a real door. If you are planning a full kitchen, our design team can start with a free 3D kitchen design so you see the layout before choosing hardware.
