About chrome hardware

Polished and Matte Chrome: A Quick Guide

Chrome is the most reflective cabinet hardware finish. It has a cool, slightly blue tone and bounces light around the room, which is why it looks crisp on white doors and in small bathrooms. Many bathroom faucets, towel bars and shower trims are chrome, so chrome vanity pulls are the easiest way to make the whole room match.

This collection is mostly polished chrome, with matte chrome for a softer, satin look that hides fingerprints better. The designs lean modern: slim bar pulls and edge pulls, plus a few transitional and traditional shapes. Sizes go from 3" pulls for vanity drawers to 12-5/8" and 16-3/8" pulls for wide drawers, and up to 19-1/8" for tall doors. A clear acrylic knob with chrome adds a little sparkle.

Is chrome cabinet hardware still in style?

Yes, especially in modern kitchens and bathrooms. Chrome never fully left, and the interest in clean, minimal kitchens and mid-century style keeps it current. The key is a modern shape. Long, slim bars in chrome look sharp on flat or shaker doors, while chunky or ornate chrome pieces look older. If glare is a concern, matte chrome keeps the cool color with less shine. Which cabinet colors go with chrome?

Chrome likes cool colors. On Fabuwood Allure Galaxy Frost it gives a bright, clean kitchen. Gray doors such as Galaxy Nickel and Galaxy Cobblestone pair naturally with its cool tone. On navy Galaxy Indigo or Galaxy Denim Blue, polished chrome stands out with a crisp, nautical feel. For cream and wood cabinets, a warmer metal such as gold or brass usually suits better.

Chrome or brushed nickel?

Chrome is bright, mirror-like and cool. Brushed nickel is softer, with a fine grain and a slightly warm tone. Chrome shows fingerprints and water spots more, so it needs a quick wipe more often, especially near the sink. Brushed nickel hides marks better. Match the finish to your faucet: chrome next to a chrome faucet, brushed nickel next to brushed nickel or stainless.

What size chrome pulls fit a bathroom vanity?

Vanity drawers are often 12" to 18" wide, so 3-3/4" and 5" pulls fit most of them, following the rule of about one third of the drawer width. Vanity doors usually take a 3" or 3-3/4" pull mounted vertically, or a knob. Measure center to center between the screw holes when you replace old hardware, and keep one size across the vanity for a tidy look.

Chrome Cabinet Pulls and Knobs FAQ

How do I keep chrome pulls clean?

Wipe them with a soft cloth and warm water, or a little glass cleaner for extra shine, then buff dry to prevent water spots. Avoid abrasive pads and harsh chemicals, which can scratch or dull the plating.

What is matte chrome?

Matte chrome has the same cool silver color as polished chrome, with a soft satin surface instead of a mirror shine. It hides fingerprints better and sits comfortably next to stainless steel appliances and brushed metal fixtures.

Can I mix chrome with black or gold?

Yes, as long as one finish leads. Keep chrome on all the cabinet hardware and use black or gold as an accent on lighting or the faucet. Some of our black pulls combine matte black with chrome in one piece, a ready-made mix for modern kitchens.

Are screws included with chrome hardware?

Yes. Every pull and knob comes with mounting screws for a standard 3/4" door or drawer front. Hardware ships by parcel directly from Richelieu, usually within 1 to 2 business days, and orders over $49 ship free to the contiguous United States.
