Oil-Rubbed Bronze Pulls and Knobs Explained

Oil-rubbed bronze is a deep chocolate brown with lighter, coppery highlights on the edges and high points. It suits kitchens that want a lived-in, classic feel: shaker doors in cream paint, natural wood and farmhouse sinks. The dark color hides fingerprints well, and because the tone varies across the surface, small marks blend in instead of standing out.

Most pieces here are brushed oil-rubbed bronze, which adds a fine grain to the dark brown. Antique English is an aged finish with an old-world look, honey bronze is lighter and more golden, and chocolate bronze is a deep, even brown. Antique copper brings a reddish tone. Is oil-rubbed bronze outdated?

No. Oil-rubbed bronze looks dated when it sits on ornate shapes in an all-dark kitchen. Which cabinet colors go with oil-rubbed bronze?

Oil-rubbed bronze is brown, with highlights that shift across the surface, so it looks warmer and softer against cream and wood. If your faucet is oil-rubbed bronze, match it. If your appliances are black stainless or your light fixtures are black, matte black may tie the room together better.

Knobs or pulls for a traditional kitchen?

Both, each where it fits best. The classic layout puts knobs on doors and pulls on drawers. For pull length, use about one third of the drawer width: a 12" drawer takes a 3-3/4" pull or a single knob, and a 30" drawer about a 10" pull.
