About brushed nickel

Brushed Nickel Pulls and Knobs: What to Know

Brushed nickel is the most forgiving finish you can put on a kitchen. The fine brushed grain softens reflections and hides fingerprints and water spots, so the drawer pulls next to the sink and dishwasher stay clean looking between wipes. Its soft gray tone sits between the warmth of gold and the shine of chrome, which is why it matches most stainless steel appliances and nickel faucets.

Every piece here has a brushed or satin nickel look: brushed nickel, matte nickel and brushed stainless steel, plus a clear knob and a two-tone pull with brushed nickel accents. You will find bar pulls, bow pulls and knobs, from 3" pulls for vanities up to 19" pulls for pantry and appliance doors. Every piece is from Richelieu and comes with mounting screws.

Is brushed nickel still in style?

Yes. Brushed nickel has been a favorite kitchen finish for decades because it works with almost every door style and cabinet color. What has changed is the shape: today's kitchens use slim bar pulls and longer lengths instead of the small bow pulls of the early 2000s. If your faucet and appliances are stainless or nickel, brushed nickel pulls keep the whole room consistent.

Which cabinet colors go with brushed nickel?

Brushed nickel looks best with a little contrast. On white shaker cabinets like Fabuwood Allure Galaxy Frost or Galaxy Dove it reads clean and bright. On gray cabinets such as Galaxy Nickel or Galaxy Cobblestone it gives a calm, tone-on-tone look. On navy and deep blue doors like Galaxy Indigo it stands out without competing with the color. For cream and warm wood cabinets, gold or bronze usually contrast better.

What size pulls do you need? Use the 1/3 rule.

Measure the drawer width and choose a pull about one third as long. A 15" drawer takes a 5" pull, a 24" drawer takes a 7-1/2" pull, and a 36" drawer looks best with a 12-5/8" pull or two shorter ones. Pull sizes are measured center to center, from the middle of one screw hole to the middle of the other. When replacing hardware, match the existing holes. Shop by size: 3-3/4", 5", 7-1/2" or long pulls.

Brushed nickel, polished nickel or chrome?

Brushed nickel has a soft grain and a slightly warm gray tone. Polished nickel is mirror bright like chrome but warmer, with a hint of yellow. Chrome is the coolest and most reflective, and shows fingerprints the most. Antique nickel and pewter are darker and suit farmhouse and traditional kitchens. Choose the one closest to your faucet. If they differ slightly, the brushed finish hides the difference best.

Brushed Nickel Cabinet Hardware FAQ

How do I install brushed nickel cabinet pulls?

Mark the hole centers with a hardware template, drill straight through the door or drawer front with a 3/16" bit, and fasten from the inside with the included screws. When you replace old pulls, order the same center to center size and reuse the existing holes.

Will brushed nickel match my stainless steel appliances?

Yes. Brushed nickel and stainless steel share the same soft gray tone and grain, so they read as a match even though the metals are different. It is the safest choice for a kitchen with stainless appliances.

Can I mix brushed nickel with other finishes?

Yes. Many kitchens pair brushed nickel cabinet pulls with a matte black faucet or black light fixtures. Keep one finish on all the cabinet hardware so the doors and drawers read as a set, and repeat the second finish at least twice in the room.

Are screws included, and how does shipping work?

Every pull and knob comes with mounting screws for a standard 3/4" door or drawer front. Hardware ships by parcel directly from Richelieu, and hardware orders over $49 ship free to the contiguous United States.
