About 10" pulls

When a 10 Inch Pull Is the Right Length

At 10", cabinet hardware starts to read as a design feature rather than a small detail. On a 30" drawer it follows the 1/3 rule almost exactly, and on a tall pantry or broom cabinet door it matches the scale of the door. Kitchens built around wide drawers and few base doors, a common modern layout, often use 10" as the main size.

In metric this size is 256 mm, eight steps of the 32 mm system, which converts to 10.08". Designs here are mostly clean modern and transitional bars, with a few traditional pieces. Finishes include brushed nickel, chrome, matte black, honey bronze, black nickel and stainless steel, plus two-tone matte black and chrome. For brass and gold tones, browse our gold pulls and knobs.

Where 10" pulls fit

Use them on 30" and 33" base drawers, the wide drawers under a cooktop, and on pantry, broom and oven cabinet doors. They also suit a run of equal-width drawers on an island, where one long line on each front looks orderly. On a 36" drawer, a 12-5/8" pull from our long pulls collection gives a full 1/3 fit.

Do 10" pulls overwhelm smaller cabinets?

They can. On a 15" drawer or a standard wall cabinet door, a 10" bar looks oversized. The usual solution is two sizes in the same design: 10" on the wide drawers and tall doors, and 5" or 6-1/4" everywhere else. Keep the finish the same and the different lengths read as one set. In a small kitchen with only one or two wide drawers, 7-1/2" may be the better choice for those drawers.

Long pulls and cabinet color

Long pulls turn hardware into a horizontal line across the base cabinets, so the contrast with the door color matters more than at shorter lengths. On Fabuwood Galaxy Indigo or Galaxy Cobblestone, brushed nickel or chrome keeps the look crisp and cool. Matte black on Fabuwood Allure Galaxy Frost or Galaxy Dove draws a strong graphic line, which suits a modern slab or slim shaker door.

Measuring and replacing 10" pulls

Measure center to center in millimeters if you can. A pull labeled 10" may be exactly 254 mm or the metric 256 mm. That 2 mm difference is small, and a slightly enlarged hole usually takes it up. Readings of 8" (203 mm) or 12" (305 mm) are different sizes, so confirm the number before you order, and test one pull on a drawer before installing the rest.

10 Inch Cabinet Pull FAQ

What size drawer needs a 10" pull?

A drawer about 30" wide, using the 1/3 rule, and it also suits drawers from 27" to 33". For 24" drawers, a 7-1/2" pull is closer to the right proportion. On 36" drawers, a longer pull looks more balanced.

How long is a 10" pull overall?

Plan on about 10-1/2" to 12" end to end for most bar styles, and a little more for designs with long tapered ends. The overall length is in each product's details. Check it when two pulls sit close together, such as on a pair of pantry doors.

Do 10" pulls go horizontal or vertical?

Horizontal on drawers, centered on the front, and vertical on doors. On a tall pantry door, set the pull at or a little above countertop height, roughly 36" to 42" from the floor, which is comfortable for most people.

Can I use 10" pulls in a bathroom or laundry room?

Yes, on wide pieces. A large vanity with drawers 27" or more across, or a tall linen cabinet, suits this length. Smaller vanity drawers look better with shorter pulls in the same finish, so the room still reads as one set.
