About this collection

3" Cabinet Pulls

3" pulls measure 76 mm from the center of one screw hole to the center of the other. Many cabinets built before metric hardware took over were drilled at this spacing, so it is the size to match when you replace older pulls without new holes. It also suits small drawers and bathroom vanities. Every pull is from Richelieu and arrives with mounting screws.

About 3" pulls

Where 3 Inch Pulls Fit Best

The 3" pull is the classic American size. For decades it was the default on oak kitchens, painted cabinets, bathroom vanities and dressers, which is why so many existing doors and drawers have holes exactly 3" apart. If you are refreshing a kitchen without replacing the doors, matching that spacing lets you change the whole look in an afternoon, with no wood filler, no new holes and no touch-up paint.

On new cabinets, a 3" pull suits the narrow pieces where a longer bar would crowd the front: 9" and 12" drawers, vanity drawers, spice pullouts and the short doors above a refrigerator. The designs here range from arched traditional pulls to slim modern bars, in brushed and antique nickel, oil-rubbed bronze, satin brass, chrome and matte black.

Measure your old hardware before you swap

Unscrew one pull and measure from the center of one hole to the center of the other. If the tape reads 3", or 76 mm on the metric side, every pull on this page drops into the same holes. If it reads closer to 3-3/4", shop our 3-3/4" pulls instead. The two sizes differ by only 3/4", and a pull that is off by that much will not line up, so measure twice.

Which drawers suit a 3" pull?

By the 1/3 rule, a 3" pull is in proportion on a drawer about 9" wide, and it still looks right up to about 12". On a 15" drawer or wider it starts to look small, so many kitchens keep 3" on the narrow pieces and step up to 5" or 7-1/2" on the wide drawers. Choose a design that comes in several lengths and the mix still reads as one family.

3" pulls on bathroom vanities

Vanity drawers are shallow and often 12" to 15" wide, and the doors are short, so a 3" pull keeps the scale right. A vanity is a base cabinet, so mount the pull vertically on the stile opposite the hinge, 2" to 3" down from the top corner. On white cabinets like Fabuwood Allure Galaxy Frost or a soft green such as Galaxy Sage Green, polished nickel and satin brass both look at home.

What a 3" pull measures end to end

Hole spacing is not the full length. Most 3" pulls run a little over 3-1/2" to about 4" overall, because the ends extend past the screws, and arched pulls with decorative feet can be longer. The overall length is listed in each product's specifications, which helps when a pull sits close to a molding detail.

3 Inch Cabinet Pull Questions

Are 3 inch cabinet pulls outdated?

No. 3" is still made in nearly every finish and style, and it is the right choice for small drawers and for matching existing holes. It looks most current in a modern bar shape or an updated finish like matte black.

Is 3" the same as 76 mm?

Yes. 3" equals 76.2 mm, so pulls labeled either way share the same hole spacing. It is an imperial size rather than one of the 32 mm metric steps (96, 128 and 160 mm), which is why newer European-style cabinets usually start at 3-3/4".

Can I replace 3" pulls with a longer size?

Yes, but the longer pull needs new holes. Fill the old ones with wood filler and touch up the paint or stain, or choose a pull with a backplate wide enough to cover them. Many owners keep 3" on the doors and change only the drawers.

Should I use knobs or 3" pulls on small doors?

Either works. Knobs need one hole and suit a traditional look. A 3" pull is easier to grab with wet hands and matches the drawer pulls. On wall cabinet doors, mount it vertically on the stile opposite the hinge, 2" to 3" up from the bottom corner.
