On a 15 inch wall cabinet and on a 36 inch base you get the same balanced look, which keeps a mixed layout reading as one considered set of cabinetry.

Galaxy is a full overlay door, which simply means the door covers most of the cabinet face so very little frame shows between one door and the next. The result is a continuous, built-in front rather than a row of separate boxes. Galaxy is also priced a step below the other Allure door styles, so the color you want often costs less here than on the same finish elsewhere in the family.

Galaxy is where the finish range is broadest. Several stains and paints appear here and nowhere else in the Allure family, so if you have arrived with a specific color in mind, this is usually the first place to look. Nexus offers a different proportion, a wider 3 1/4 inch frame, and may be a better fit if you want the doors to feel more substantial. Luna takes the opposite route with a slim 3/4 inch frame for a more contemporary face. Customers who prefer no frame at all on the door may also consider Luxe, the smooth slab in the same collection.

Galaxy is stocked across the full cabinet range: base, wall, tall and pantry, vanity units for bathrooms, plus the fillers, panels, moldings and accessories a finished run needs in the matching color.

What You Get in Every Box

• All-plywood cabinet box. Wall, tall and base cabinets use 3/4 inch select veneered plywood with matching veneer edge banding, a strong and moisture-resistant foundation that holds screws well over a long life.
• Solid wood face frame. 3/4 by 1 1/2 inch stiles and rails joined with glue and dowels, with the back of the frame grooved to accept the side panels so the front locks to the box.
• Mortise and tenon door joints around a 3/8 inch recessed MDF and veneer center panel. This is the traditional way a frame-and-panel door is put together, and it keeps the corners tight through years of seasonal humidity.
• Five-piece drawer fronts that repeat the door detail rather than sitting underneath it as plain flat panels, so a bank of drawers looks like part of the same cabinetry.
• 5/8 inch solid wood dovetail drawer boxes with a 3/8 inch plywood bottom. Dovetail means the corners interlock like fingers, which keeps a drawer square even when it is loaded with pans.
• Full-extension Blum Tandem runners with Blumotion, so the drawer travels clear of the cabinet and the back of it is genuinely reachable, then closes quietly on its own.
• Blum Compact Clip hinges, six-way adjustable and opening to 110 degrees, with quick-release so a door lifts off without tools when you want to paint behind it.
• Plywood toe kick on base and tall cabinets, with matching 8 foot lengths available to finish the run cleanly.

Available Finishes

Wood tones and stains. Desert Oak is the palest, a light rift-cut oak look that suits the bright, natural kitchens people are drawn to right now. Timber is a warm mid-brown oak that sits easily against most flooring. Truffle runs deeper and cooler than Timber, which helps when your counters lean gray. Mocha is warmer and redder, lovely alongside brass hardware and a cream stone. Cobblestone and Horizon are the weathered grays, and because they are stains rather than paints the grain shows through the color, adding texture that a flat gray paint does not give you.

Stains sit on real wood, so grain direction and depth vary a little between doors. The Decorative Hardwoods Association is a useful place to read about how veneer and grain behave if you want to understand what you are looking at before your samples arrive.

Whites, grays and neutrals. Cloud White is the softer, warmer white and Frost is the brighter, cooler one. Dove sits between white and a light gray. Linen adds a touch of warmth, Nickel is a clean mid gray, and Macadamia Beige brings a little sand into the room. All of these pair well with a veined quartz counter, which keeps a neutral kitchen from feeling flat.

Color. Five greens run from soft Sage through Mint and Pistachio to deep Hunter and Forest. Denim Blue, Izel Blue and Indigo cover the range from an easy workday blue to a true navy. Graphite Black and Pitch Black give two different depths of black, and Cabernet Red and Orchid Purple are there when you want the cabinets themselves to be the talking point.

Putting the Kitchen Together

A 2 1/2 inch frame is the most accommodating width we sell where hardware is concerned. Cup pulls, bar pulls and knobs all sit comfortably on it, so you are not committed to one look before you have chosen the rest of the room. If you are still undecided about handles, that freedom is worth having.

The visible frame also breaks up a strong color, which is why deep greens and blacks feel at home across a whole Galaxy kitchen rather than only on an island. On the stained finishes, mortise and tenon construction lets the grain run in two directions around the panel, and that is exactly why Timber and Cobblestone look richer here than the same color would on a flat door.

A pairing worth trying: a stained island against a painted perimeter. You get warmth where you gather and keep the walls light. Pale oak or wide-plank flooring works well under the neutrals, and a simple subway or zellige backsplash keeps the attention on the doors.

Good to Know

Soft-close is standard on doors and drawers throughout. The corner specialties are the exception: Lazy Susan, Easy Reach and Wall Pie Cut cabinets are supplied without the mechanism, so plan that corner knowing it.

Because stains are applied to real wood, a slight difference in tone from door to door is normal and is part of the character of a stained kitchen. Painted finishes give an even color from door to door, so a paint may be a better fit if matching a countertop exactly is your priority.

Desert Oak sits in a higher price band than the rest of the Galaxy range, reflecting the pale rift-cut oak look. Timber and Truffle give you a wood tone at the standard Galaxy price if the budget is doing the deciding.

Galaxy is the classic shaker in the Allure family, and for most kitchens it is the easiest one to say yes to.
