Why White Oak Has Taken Over Kitchen Design
White oak is the finish behind most of the kitchens people are saving to their inspiration boards right now. It is pale without being cold, has a straight, quiet grain rather than the loud cathedral pattern of older oak kitchens, and it warms a room in a way painted cabinets have to work at.
It also sits comfortably with almost everything: white and gray quartz, marble-look stone, matte black or brass hardware, and both light and dark flooring. That flexibility is a large part of why it has lasted well beyond a single season.
We keep this page deliberately focused. Rather than list every wood-look finish we sell, it covers the two genuine white oaks in the Fabuwood range: Desert Oak, which you can buy today, and Natural Oak, arriving in September 2026.

Desert Oak is the closest thing in the current Fabuwood range to a true rift-cut white oak: pale, natural and straight-grained, with none of the orange cast that dated the oak kitchens of the nineties. It is the finish most customers mean when they ask us for white oak.
It comes on three doors, so you can have the same finish in three quite different kitchens:
- Allure Galaxy, a classic shaker with a 2 1/2 inch frame. The traditional proportion most people picture, and the most affordable of the three.
- Allure Luna, a slim shaker with a 3/4 inch frame. Narrower and more current while keeping the shaker character.
- Allure Luxe, a smooth slab door with no frame at all. The most modern option, and the one that shows the most uninterrupted grain.
All three are framed, all-plywood cabinets with solid wood face frames, solid wood dovetail drawer boxes and full-extension Blum Tandem plus Blumotion soft-close runners.

Fabuwood is adding Natural Oak to the Allure Galaxy and Luna collections in September 2026. It is a rift-cut white oak that will sit alongside Desert Oak rather than replace it, so both will be available once it launches.
The difference between the two is in the cut and the undertone rather than the overall shade. If you are planning a kitchen for later in the year, it is worth understanding how they compare before you commit to either.

DesignDesigning a White Oak Kitchen
Countertops. White and light gray quartz is the safest and most popular pairing, and lets the grain be the feature. Marble-look surfaces with soft gray veining work beautifully. Heavy, busy veining competes with the grain, so keep the movement gentle if the oak is doing the talking.
Hardware. Matte black gives crisp contrast against pale oak and keeps things modern. Unlacquered or brushed brass warms it and suits a softer, more organic kitchen. Leather pulls have become popular on slab oak doors and look genuinely good in person.
Flooring. The most common misstep is putting pale oak cabinets against a pale oak floor in a slightly different tone, which reads as a mismatch rather than a match. Either contrast the two clearly, or separate them with tile or stone so there is nothing to compare.
Two-tone. White oak works especially well as an island against a painted perimeter, or as the wall cabinets above a darker base run. Our white, navy and green ranges all pair naturally with it and use the same door profiles, so the proportions stay consistent.

Desert Oak is a stained finish on real wood, so slight tone variation between doors is normal and part of its character. If you want a completely uniform look across a large kitchen, that is worth knowing in advance.
Soft-close is standard, with the corner specialties as the exception. Lazy Susan, Easy Reach and Wall Pie Cut cabinets are supplied without the mechanism.
Desert Oak sits in a higher price band than the mid-brown stains in the same collections, reflecting the pale rift-cut look. Within that, the Galaxy door is the most affordable of the three, so if budget is the deciding factor, Galaxy Desert Oak is the place to start.

Fabuwood cabinets carry the Limited Lifetime Warranty on purchases made on or after 1 October 2024.
Order a sample before you commit. Pale wood tones are the hardest finish to judge on a screen, because undertone only shows next to your floor and countertop. Lay the sample flat where the cabinets will go and look at it in daylight and again in the evening.
