Allure Fusion carries Nickel, Stone and Oyster on a 3 inch frame with a soft molded profile on the inside edge, which gives the door more shadow and a furniture-like face. Quest Metro carries Mist on a 2 inch rail with a traditional overlay, so a border of the painted face frame shows between the doors. It is the most affordable gray shaker in the Fabuwood range. Illume Tuscany and Ovela Tuscany carry Cashmere and Basalto as a five-piece shaker door on a frameless box, so the door covers the whole opening and you reach the full width of the cabinet. Jarlin

Jarlin carries Smoky Gray, Sterling Gray and Sandy Mirage on a full overlay shaker door. Cabinets are stocked fully assembled or ready to assemble, and you choose the build on each cabinet's own page.

Eurocraft

Eurocraft carries Gauntlet Gray and Haze Gray on a five-piece laminate shaker door with a clean square frame, on a frameless European box. If you like the frameless format but want a slimmer frame, the same two grays are also offered on the Eurocraft slim shaker door.

KCD

Brooklyn carries Modern Gray and Slate on a transitional profile that sits comfortably between modern and traditional, with full overlay doors in KCD's Premier Series. Essential carries Gray in the Builder Series, a partial overlay door at a lower price built for rentals, flips and projects where the budget has to stretch.

CNC

Luxor carries Misty Grey and Smoky Grey on a 2 1/2 inch shaker door with a semi-full overlay and a 1/2 inch reveal, and it is the quickest CNC line to ship. Luxor 5-Piece is the same door with a five-piece drawer front in place of the slab front. Concord Elegant carries Smoky Grey and Stone on a full overlay five-piece solid wood door with a flat center panel and mortise and tenon joinery. Concord Richmond carries Stone on a full overlay shaker door in the same Concord box.

The hardware and the box follow the brand rather than the color, so here is what each one gives you.

• Fabuwood Allure and Quest: plywood box with a solid wood face frame, solid wood dovetail drawer boxes, and Blum soft-close hinges and full-extension runners.
• Fabuwood Illume Tuscany: frameless box in 3/4 inch engineered furniture board with Blum MERIVOBOX metal drawer boxes. The slimmer metal side wall is part of what gives the box its full-access interior.
• Fabuwood Ovela Tuscany: the same frameless Tuscany door on an all-plywood box with 5/8 inch solid wood dovetail drawers, for anyone who wants frameless, plywood and dovetail in one cabinet.
• Jarlin: 1/2 inch plywood box with a hardwood face frame, 5/8 inch solid wood dovetail drawers, and soft-close hinges and runners standard.
• Eurocraft: frameless 3/4 inch plywood box with a white melamine interior. Drawer boxes are full extension with soft-close, either double-wall metal or solid wood dovetail depending on the cabinet. Cabinets go together with wood dowels and quick screws, which makes them straightforward to square up on site.
• KCD Brooklyn (Premier Series): 1/2 inch seven-ply plywood box, full overlay doors with solid wood stiles and rails, and 5/8 inch solid wood dovetail drawers. KCD Essential (Builder Series): engineered wood sides with a plywood back, the same solid wood face frame and dovetail drawers, and partial overlay doors, which is what brings the price down.
• CNC Luxor and Concord: all-plywood boxes with soft-close hardware. Concord adds full 1/2 inch back panels, five-piece drawer fronts, full-extension undermount glides and finished interiors.

Across all of them, full-extension runners bring the drawer clear of the cabinet so the back of it is genuinely reachable, and the soft-close mechanism takes the last inch quietly on its own. Frameless construction gives a wider opening and full access to the box, which is the practical reason to choose Tuscany or Eurocraft over a framed cabinet.

Available Finishes

Nickel is the most-requested mid gray, cool and clean without tipping into blue. It is available on both Galaxy and Fusion and is the safest starting point if you are unsure which direction to go.

Stone and Oyster, on Fusion, are the warmer side of the Fabuwood grays and lean greige. They settle well in a room with wood floors and warm light. CNC also has a finish called Stone, on Concord Elegant and Richmond. It is a separate paint with its own door sample, so order the one you are actually considering rather than assuming the two match.

Cashmere, from the Tuscany door, is the palest option here, a soft light gray that reads almost off-white in a bright room. Basalto, from the same door, is the deepest, a rich charcoal gray that looks particularly handsome on an island or a run of tall cabinets.

Mist, from Quest Metro, is a light-to-mid gray and the most affordable gray shaker in the Fabuwood range.

From Jarlin, Sandy Mirage is a warm greige, Sterling Gray is a true mid gray, and Smoky Gray rounds out the three.

Gauntlet Gray and Haze Gray from Eurocraft, Modern Gray and Slate from KCD Brooklyn, Gray from KCD Essential, and Misty Grey and Smoky Grey from CNC each ship with a door sample, and the names are a fair guide: Haze and Misty sit on the lighter side, Gauntlet, Slate and Smoky on the deeper side. Hold two of them against your countertop before you decide.

Horizon is the most interesting of the group. It is a stained wood finish rather than a paint, available on Galaxy, so you get a grayed, weathered wood look with real grain showing through. A painted gray gives you a uniform, solid color that is easy to match to a specific quartz and keeps a kitchen calm. A grayed stain keeps the wood grain visible under the color, hides everyday wear well and gives the room a texture paint cannot produce. Because it is a stain over real wood, the tone shifts slightly between doors, which Fabuwood notes is normal for a stained finish. The Decorative Hardwoods Association is a good reference if you want to understand how grain and figure vary across hardwood panels.

Putting the Kitchen Together

Gray carries undertones that only show up next to another material, so matching the undertone is the main job here.

A cool gray such as Nickel or Basalto pairs cleanly with white and gray quartz, stainless appliances and polished or brushed nickel hardware. Keep the counter on the cooler side and the whole room stays crisp.

A warm gray such as Stone or Sandy Mirage wants warmer company: cream and beige-veined quartz, wood floors, and brass or bronze hardware. Those pairings bring out the greige rather than fighting it.

A grayed wood tone like Horizon is the most flexible of the three, because the grain carries both warm and cool notes and bridges materials that would otherwise sit awkwardly together. It is the one to sample if your floor and countertop pull in different directions.

• Soft-close doors and drawers are standard across every brand on this page. On Fabuwood, the Lazy Susan, Easy Reach and Wall Pie Cut cabinets are supplied without the mechanism, which is worth knowing before you plan a corner.
• Painted grays give the most predictable color match to a specific countertop and stay uniform across a large room. Stained finishes such as Horizon vary gently from door to door and wear in rather than showing their age, so the choice comes down to which quality you want more.
• The same gray costs different amounts depending on the door it sits on. Within Fabuwood Allure, Galaxy sits a price column below Fusion, so Galaxy Nickel costs less than Fusion Nickel on the same box, and Quest Metro Mist is the most affordable Fabuwood gray. Every cabinet is priced individually on its collection page, so the quickest way to compare two lines is to price the same 30 inch base in each.
• Lead times differ by brand. Fabuwood and Jarlin orders typically arrive within 2 to 4 weeks, and many arrive sooner. Stocked CNC Luxor and CNC Concord finishes typically arrive within 2 to 4 weeks, and CNC PLUS colors within 4 to 7 weeks.
• Gray shifts more between light sources than any other cabinet color, which is part of what gives it depth. Looking at a sample in daylight and again under your evening lighting is the simplest way to be sure.
